The great musical minds from around the country come together to celebrate all that is music in Himig ng Bayan 2009 on May 13 to 16 in Dumaguete City. It aims to bring Filipino musical creativity to the fore with a four-day event that fosters budding talent and creates a venue for music enthusiasts to listen to and play great music.

Acknowledging that the Philippines is a breeding ground for talented musician and songwriters, Himig ng Bayan gives aspiring artists a place to perform their own pieces and learn from the best in the industry. Hoping to become an annual event, Himig ng Bayan not only gives amateurs the chance to listen to the country’s top acts in concert, but takes it one step further with activities that allow them to interact with their favorite artists.

The four-day festival includes the following:

Jamming sessions. Seasoned artists gather on the Rizal Blvd. to enjoy an hour of jamming. Everyone can watch artists play around with musical notes and instruments, displaying skill and hopefully inspiring younger talent in the audience.

Workshops. Workshops on guitar, piano and vocals will be conducted by top names in the music business, giving aspiring artists and musicians to learn about the industry and hone their musical talent from the very personalities they look up to.

Recitals. The national competition gives budding guitarists, pianists and singers the chance to show off their talent to respected industry insiders.

Nightly concerts. The free, nightly concerts are open to everyone, giving people the chance to enjoy the cool ocean breeze and various commercial establishments around Rizal Blvd. Talents include Bamboo and The Dawn.

The closing ceremony will feature three of the country’s top musical acts, and a special number from the winners of the previous day’s recital.
